TRAVELLING TO RIO

We know that navigating the city and choosing where to stay can be hard. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out directly to us or use Joá Travel Design services. Airbnb works very well in the city. We also selected a few recommended hotels with different profiles:

Jo&Joe $

Hostel in a young and bohemian neighborhood. Further away from the beach and less public transportation links.

Villa 25 Hostel & Suites $

The following options are all located in the the wealthiest and most walkable part of town. Close to the beach, the tube, bars and restaurants.

Located between Ipanema and Copacabana,

close to both beaches.

Ipanema Inn $$

In the heart of Ipanema, also close

to Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

Hotel Arpoador $$$

Located between Ipanema and Copacabana, close to both beaches. A fancier boutique hotel.

Hotel Janeiro $$$$

In Leblon, the most residential neighborhood in the “south zone”.

SAFETY TIPS

We know you’ve heard about how Rio is not the safest city in the world, but it is also not at all unmanageable. Being alert and following a few basic safety tips will keep you out of trouble:

Always be mindful of your surroundings. Avoid navigating empty regions or streets. Always stay where you’re surrounded by other people. Avoid walking around at night (even for short distances and by the beach) unless in a crowded area.

Always be mindful of your belongings. Don’t leave your possessions unattended anywhere and avoid waving expensive gadgets or jewelry when out and about.

Get acquainted with the location of the favelas around town. Do not adventure yourself in a favela under any circumstances.

When paying with a credit/debit card, double check the amount being charged.

Give preference to rideshares instead of yellow cabs and always order through your own phone.
